agricultural project in portugal this is a sustainable and diversified agricultural project for the production of vegetables, table grapes (fresh and dried), cheeses and jams (among others). the project is located in the central region of portugal (gps: 39.90528, 8.72276), 20 km from the coast, with good road access: two nearby highways, 45 km from the port of figueira da foz, 160 km from lisbon airport and 170 km from porto airport. brief description of the project: acquisition (or long term rental) of forest land along a river, with the aim of reaching an area of 100 ha including the necessary infrastructure for the proper functioning of the project, to transform them into agricultural land with modern, mechanized and innovative exploitation, using the best available technologies, automated regulation of irrigation and obtaining solar energy, use of remote monitoring, etc. the intervention area was cultivated land 50 years ago, which gradually transformed into forest land, due to the abandonment of traditional agriculture, often subsistence, unprofitable due to its fragmentation and diversification of owners. cultivated at the time without mechanized means, but also with the emigration of the 60s / 80s of the last century, and the advanced age of the populations that remained, these lands were gradually abandoned to agriculture and transformed into forest. project objective: the objective is to diversify production, in typologies and adapted to the different periods of the year, with the creation of a mini dam for retention and water capture in the river, which will allow the supply and control of water retention lakes in the perimeter (interconnected with each other for better water management) during the winter to ensure adjusted irrigation of crops during the summer period, possibly with the support of own captures. the flat lands on the river bank will be used for the production of vegetables, while the raised lands will be used to produce table grapes and others. seaweed based fertilization is planned (in agreement with the fishermen of the coastal areas located 20 km away) for the harvest and supply of seaweed (which will provide them with additional income during the winter), mixed with sawdust, providing natural fertilization to the crops (recognized effectiveness). on the other hand, it is planned to create a self sufficient structure in the most diverse areas related to the activity, with a germination shed (innovative), a selection and packaging shed, a fruit dehydration and packaging shed, a cold storage shed and dry storage and shipping. create its own brands for the national market and for export, with quality products and with a strong orientation towards sustainability and respect for the environment, without forgetting the social. with a direct commercial service and delivery to department stores, an online sales store and local sales, thus increasing the operating margin. in addition to agricultural production, a housing complex will be created to develop a rural tourism branch. strengths: direct relationship with most owners and local authorities. the project will have a significant social impact on local employment (a residential area for workers is planned, including a daycare for their children, thus contributing to the retention of workers, offering them a better quality of life and naturally reducing travel, therefore with a direct impact on co2 reduction). the project will also contribute to the control and reduction of fires that have affected the area in recent years (currently, the area is mainly forest, without any regular economic return for its owners, which is why these lands have been abandoned in recent decades by their current owners), transforming what is currently forest into agricultural land. finally, also providing for the breeding of sheep and goats in pastures, which, will contribute to the cleaning of the land after each production and the adjacent lands, thus providing the necessary raw material (milk) for the cheese factory. a system of mobile hives will be installed for the natural pollination of vegetables and the production of honey which will also be marketed in all its forms. investment: foreseeing a total investment of between 40/50 million, when the written investment commitment of 50% of this amount is reached, the project will be presented to the local authorities to obtain a preliminary feasibility agreement, followed by negotiations for the acquisition of the land. the funds raised will either be a loan (with a 3 year moratorium with remuneration to be determined) or converted into shares in the company to be incorporated, the minimum per investor is 10,000/share. note: the project will be launched after prior agreement from the city hall and agreement from the owners of at least 50ha of the land owners. the project having been presented to the technical services of the city hall and to the portuguese environmental agenda, having received a very good reception of the idea, with the communication of all the technical elements to be taken into account.
