Undaria pinnatifida is a large brown seaweed belonging to the order Laminariales. This seaweed attaches to rocks by a hapteron (holdfast). The stipe is flattened with dentate margins that turn into lobe like projections. The blade is a translucent green colour, triangular and lobed, with a pronounced midrib. It grows in shallow water but can grow to a length of 2 to 3 m.
Undaria pinnatifida is collected in winter and spring.
